Small pets
Hi Guys. Omega here. It’s great to be back.
This week I’m going to talk to you about animals that are much smaller than me. Small pets – Little furry friends like hamsters, gerbils and mice, and the slightly bigger ones like guinea pigs and rabbits. Those little guys are so cute, I love to watch them run around in their cages.
They make really good pets, but you have to care for them all in different ways. Small pets like rabbits are sociable creatures and enjoy the company of others, while hamsters are more introverted and like to live on their own. Each type of small pets likesslightly different food and different styles of houses. Rabbits and guinea pigs can live outside in hutches, but hamsters and gerbils need to be kept inside in the warm.
Whatever type of small pet you own, they need to be cleaned out regularly and they need to have access to clean water and healthy food.
Bedding like this one https://mutts.ie/product/wood-flakes/ is the perfect place to start to make a warm cosy home for your small pets. Then you need to add a softer place for them to sleep; a house or a hideaway filled with https://mutts.ie/product/wooly-hamster-bedding-100g/ will keep them safe and warm.
When it comes to feeding, most small animals will enjoy some fresh vegetables and even a little fruit (but not bones, Dad says I’m not allowed to share my bones with them), but they also need a cereal based feed tailored just for them.
We have this kind for hamsters https://mutts.ie/product/supreme-selective-hamster-food-1-5kg/ and this one for rabbits https://mutts.ie/product/supreme-selective-rabbit-food-1-5kg/ because they need different things in their diets.
These pets love to play and run around, so it’s important that they get out of their cages for some exercise often. Rabbits like a hop around the garden and guinea pigs are easily trained and can be taught to come when you call. Hamsters and gerbils need to be kept in a more enclosed space (those guys are quick!) and if you are worried about them running away, a ball like this one https://mutts.ie/product/cheeko-hamster-ball-18cm/ is a great way to let them out without giving them complete freedom. The bath is also a brilliant place to let them have a run without fear of losing them under furniture or into gaps in the skirting.
We’ve got lots of products to help you care for your small, furry friend. So if you need anything drop in our give us a call. Dad is always available for advice, just ask him a question in the chat section on our website.
It’s been great to talk to you, I’ll be back soon with more waggy words of wisdom.
See you soon
